Code of Ethics

Ongi.News is published by Ongi Digital Venture LLP. We are committed to journalism that informs the public accurately, fairly and independently. This Code sets out the principles our journalists, editors, contributors and staff follow. It is consistent with the Code of Ethics for digital news publishers under Part III of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and with the norms of journalistic conduct recognised in India.

1. Accuracy

1.1 We verify facts before publishing and rely on credible sources. Where a claim cannot be independently verified, we say so.

1.2 We distinguish clearly between reporting, analysis, opinion, commentary and other types of content and suitably label them to avoid ambiguity.

1.3 Corrections policy. We correct significant errors promptly. Corrections are published within the original article or, where necessary, as a clearly marked update. Readers can report errors to onginews@gmail.com.

2. Fairness and Balance

2.1 We give people named in critical reporting an opportunity to respond, unless it is not reasonably possible or would compromise public interest or safety.

2.2 We represent different viewpoints fairly on matters of public debate, and we do not present one side as if it were the only side.

2.3 We do not suppress or distort facts to suit a viewpoint.

3. Independence and Conflicts of Interest

3.1 Editorial decisions are made by our editorial team and we will always strive to keep them free from undue influence by advertisers, sponsors, political parties, government bodies or commercial interests.

3.2 We make sure that personal or professional interest of our journalists and contributors does not affect their reporting.

3.3 We do not accept gifts or benefits that could influence coverage.

4. Separation of Editorial and Commercial Content

4.1 Advertisements, sponsored content and paid placements are clearly labelled, and kept distinct from editorial content.

4.2 Commercial arrangements do not influence editorial independence.

5. Respect for Dignity and Privacy

5.1 We respect the dignity, privacy and reputation of individuals. We do not publish private information without a clear public interest justification.

5.2 We take particular care in reporting on children, victims of crime, sexual offences, survivors of abuse, and people in vulnerable circumstances. We do not identify victims of sexual offences.

5.3 We do not publish material that is obscene, vulgar or intended to incite hatred or violence on grounds of religion, caste, community, gender, region, language or any other basis.

6. Sources and Attribution

6.1 We attribute information and quotations to their sources wherever possible.

6.2 We protect confidential sources where we have promised to do so and where doing so does not conflict with law.

6.3 We do not plagiarise. We credit other publications and authors when we use their work, and we respect copyright.

7. Use of Artificial Intelligence and Technology

7.1 We use AI tools to assist us with research, transcription, translation, editing, writing, audio-video, visual, graphics, production etc tasks. But AI tools do not replace editorial judgement, original writing and a human editor is always responsible for every published piece.

7.2 We do not publish AI-generated images, audio or video that misrepresent real people or events. Where synthetic or AI-generated material is used, we label it clearly.

7.3 We do not enter confidential source material, unpublished investigations or sensitive personal information into external AI services without editorial approval and an assessment of confidentiality, security and contractual safeguards. AI-assisted outputs are independently checked before publication.

8. Content Restrictions

We do not publish content that is prohibited under applicable law, including content that threatens the sovereignty, integrity, security or public order of India, or that is defamatory. Content deemed unlawful will be removed upon receiving a valid order or notice, in accordance with law.

9. User Content and Comments

9.1 Comments and User Content are moderated in line with our Terms of Use. We may remove content that is unlawful, abusive, hateful or spam.

9.2 We do not endorse user comments.

10. Accountability and Grievance Redressal

10.1 Readers may raise concerns about our content, including inaccuracy, unfairness or privacy, with our Grievance Officer, Shyam Parekh, at onginews@gmail.com.

10.2 We acknowledge complaints and respond within the timelines required under the IT Rules, 2021. Where a complaint is not resolved to the complainant’s satisfaction, it may be referred to the self-regulatory body or the authority prescribed under the IT Rules, 2021, as applicable.

10.3 We keep records of the content we publish and of grievances received for at least the period required under the IT Rules, 2021, and make them available to authorised bodies as required by law.

11. Review of this Code

We review this Code periodically to keep it consistent with journalistic standards and applicable law. The current version is always available on this page.
